More about Open Back Russian Filigree

Open back Russian filigree is an ancient jewelry technique. The motif is made from individually placed tiny twisted fine silver curls, called filigree wire. I hand make my own filigree wire, to ensure I have the quality I like. The curls are measured, cut, curled just so and held into the design by tension before soldering. The finished piece has a very delicate look, but it is very sturdy.
